The world is infinitely big with the only restriction being the size of yourself This is best seen in video however to explain the design of the world it's best to imagine a circle cut into rings that you can move freely around. As it stands now? I’ve played worse, but considering it’s an indie title, which needs heart above all else? That this feels so corporate & soullessly clean is beyond the pale.Ĥh PlayedThis is a puzzle game with a unique premise, that immediately hooked me. ![]() If the puzzles weren’t completely let down by *every single other element*, would be able to handwave away more. But the puzzles themselves are fairly satisfying, where the finicky controls allow anyways. Except for that first needle drop - almost thought I was listening to a Mamas and Papas song for a minute, but that’s no Mama Cass - and the puzzles, the game is simply incapable of producing a single authentic moment. Once your puzzle fails to solve thanks to the stairs hovering too far above the ground for the 10th time, you’’ll curse how poorly everything fits together. But even that simple element is spoiled to no small degree by how imprecise and sloppy everything is. Sure, the puzzles are fine? But everything outside of the puzzles is so half-assed. Outside of maybe two levels, the one after the big fight where you must look *through* the gem to identify the way forward & the level following, I don’t think there’s much to enjoy. The characters are absolute nothings, without a single unique personality or character trait to them, the game is a bit janky in terms of collision, the art direction doesn’t actually have much personality (noncommittally charming is how I’d describe it, or: vague!). This is a game which would well and truly benefit from a complete excising of its narrative.4h 32m PlayedI won’t say this game is terrible. I mean this without exaggeration: it is not possible to create gameplay sufficiently enjoyable to counterbalance Maqeutte's voiceover scenes in which two flat characters quip tritely as a coloring book picture slowly fills in like a loading screen from the pits of hell. Except in the case of Maquette, we must live with the knowledge that this is a fully scripted disaster. What we're left to experience is something like a very sweaty, uneventful scene at an amateur improv theater. The voice talent makes a valiant effort to breathe some life into the script, but there's just nothing there. The challenge as a player is to get the maximum enjoyment out of this interesting mechanic while tuning out the narrative as much as possible. A good game to play in a weekend and chill out. Overall, it’s a nice puzzle game that will not stress you out. I thing they could have worked better on sound design. Don’t get me wrong, the game has a good well-suited soundtrack, but it’s played just in the beginning of each chapter, and then you will be hearing just the silent ambient noise. And if you find yourself in that situation, you’ll feel lonely with the silence of the game. It’s something that you’ll probably won’t be spending dozens of minutes to figure out what to do. I like how the game gives you no hint on what to do and encourage you to explore the scenery and try things out. The game plays with that to construct puzzles in a simple manner, there is not much variation on how you manipulate objects or place them, but is effective. Placing objects in the small “maquette” and seeing it recursively generated outside is a cool effect and reminds me of that “infinite mirror effect”. The recursive scenery is beautifully crafted which serves as a visual metaphor for constructing the narrative and gives you a fun sense of scale. There are some cliches, but is well written overall. ![]() The narrative is simple and presented by great voice acting.
